چکیده

There are several notions of largeness that make sense in any semigroup, and others such as the various kinds of density that make sense in sufficiently well-behaved semigroups including (N,+) and (N, ·). It was recently shown that sets in N which are multiplicatively large must contain arbitrarily large geoarithmetic progressions, that is, sets of the form { rj(a+ id) : i, j ∈ {0, 1, . . . , k} } , as well as sets of the form { b(a + id)j : i, j ∈ {0, 1, . . . , k} } . Consequently, given a finite partition of N, one cell must contain such configurations. In the partition case we show that we can get substantially stronger conclusions. We establish some combined additive and multiplicative Ramsey theoretic consequences of known algebraic results in the semigroups (βN,+) and (βN, ·), derive some new algebraic results, and derive consequences of them involving geoarithmetic progressions. For example, we show that given any finite partition of N there must be, for each k, sets of the form { b(a + id)j : i, j ∈ {0, 1, . . . , k} } together with d, the arithmetic progression { a + id : i ∈ {0, 1, . . . , k} } , and the geometric progression { bdj : j ∈ {0, 1, . . . , k} } in one cell of the partition. More generally, we show that, if S is a commutative semigroup and F a partition regular family of finite subsets of S, then for any finite partition of S and any k ∈ N, there exist b, r ∈ S and F ∈ F such that rF ∪ {b(rx)j : x ∈ F, j ∈ {0, 1, 2, . . . , k}} is contained in a cell of the partition. Also, we show that for certain partition regular families F and G of subsets of N, given any finite partition of N some cell contains structures of the form B ∪ C ∪ B · C for some B ∈ F , C ∈ G.

A generalization of Martindale's theorem to $(alpha, beta)-$homomorphism

Martindale proved that under some conditions every multiplicative isomorphism between two rings is additive. In this paper, we extend this theorem to a larger class of mappings and conclude that every multiplicative $(alpha, beta)-$derivation is additive.

Additive and Multiplicative Ramsey Theory in the Reals and the Rationals

Let a finite partition F of the real interval (0, 1) be given. We show that if every member of F is measurable or if every member of F is a Baire set, then one member of F must contain a sequence with all of its finite sums and products (and, in the measurable case, all of its infinite sums as well). These results are obtained by using the algebraic structure of the Stone-Čech compactification ...

Zarankiewicz Numbers and Bipartite Ramsey Numbers

The Zarankiewicz number z(b; s) is the maximum size of a subgraph of Kb,b which does not contain Ks,s as a subgraph. The two-color bipartite Ramsey number b(s, t) is the smallest integer b such that any coloring of the edges of Kb,b with two colors contains a Ks,s in the rst color or a Kt,t in the second color. In this work, we design and exploit a computational method for bounding and computing...

Bernays-Schönfinkel-Ramsey with Simple Bounds is NEXPTIME-complete

Linear arithmetic extended with free predicate symbols is undecidable, in general. We show that the restriction of linear arithmetic inequations to simple bounds extended with the Bernays-Schönfinkel-Ramsey free first-order fragment is decidable and NEXPTIME-complete. The result is almost tight because the Bernays-Schönfinkel-Ramsey fragment is undecidable in combination with linear difference ...
